Andrew Jackson gained his fame under Thomas Jefferson's presidency as a general in the War of 1812 by obtaining a huge victory at the Battle of New Orleans against the British in the War of 1812. Becoming a national war hero, Jackson was ordered by President James Monroe to take care of the problem with the Seminoles and runaway slaves in Florida. Known for his extreme and brutal military tactics, he met little resistance oh his way through Florida. Going on his own orders, Jackson captured Spanish forts and towns and even executed two British officials who were dealing arms to the Seminoles. President Monroe immediately called him back as he created issues with two different nations. Despite the chaos he created with the Native Americans, Spanish, and British, his reputation throughout the nation exploded allowing him to gain supporters for the election of 1828, in which he became president of the United States.
